CLIENT ASK: Create an authentic marketplace highlighting Lauren Halsey

Nike’s “ ALL FOR 1” campaign celebrated the iconic Air Force 1 with three special edition regional drops. The brand collaborated with South Central LA artist Lauren Halsey to cook up LA’s model along with matching apparel. Inspired by Afrocentric, futuristic, funkdafied art straight from the mothership, Lauren delivered a Triple Black Hi that represented our culture and the pride of South Central.

To celebrate this historic collaboration, we were tasked with creating a community market to bring Lauren’s world to life. Mixtapes, incense, a funk’d out garden entrance, giant pyramids and a large collaborative scratch off wall  were just a few of the elements that highlighted South Central culture.

This project will always hold a special place in my heart. Lauren comes from the same neighborhood as me and grew up experiencing the same things that shaped and molded our surrounding areas. Her studio is walking distance from the house I grew up in. To be able to work on a project that was authentic to the core was everything. It wasn’t fake, it wasn’t forced, it wasn’t cliche. We partnered with The Mighty Game Seven on programming and delivered an event still talked about today. The best part was knowing that it was led by young Black creatives from all aspects.
